I gave a presentation at the symposium “Approaches to challenges in geriatric emergency care” during the 53rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine, held in Osaka from October 28 to 30, 2025.
My presentation, titled “Current status and challenges of collaboration between fire departments and long-term care, welfare, and health organizations: findings from a nationwide survey and interview study,” reported the status and challenges of inter-organizational collaboration and proposed strategies to strengthen these collaborations.
Other symposium speakers presented hot topics in geriatric emergency medicine, including analyses of emergency transports from elderly care facilities, nationwide surveys on Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) orders in prehospital settings, and community-based efforts for Advanced Care Planning(ACP). Although my presentation took a slightly different perspective, I believe that many challenges in geriatric emergency care cannot be addressed by fire departments alone—underscoring the importance of collaboration with community organizations.
